JOSE MARIA ALVAREZ-PALLETE - the former CEO of Telefonica- has joined the prestigious Glow Board of Advisors.
Until January of this year, José María was the Chairman and CEO of Telefonica, where he spent 26 years of his career leading and building Telefonica into one of the world’s largest and most recognized telcos. His impact on Telefonica is recognized as having been transformational.
He joins the Glow Advisory Board which includes several former Telco CEOs from operators such as AT&T, Verizon, British Telecom, Tele 2, Rogers, Kabel Deutschland, Bell Canada, KPN, Virgin Media, and Deutsch Telekom as well as Finance experts from TA Associates and Allen & Co and a member of the UK House of Lords.
Over decades within the telecoms industry, Jose Maria has also led the GSMA where he was Chairman of the Board of Directors for many years driving multiple initiatives including the cross-telco API Open Gateway initiative, which has the potential to transform how telco services are bought and crafting a path for European digital leadership. Among other things he also sat on the boards of Portugal Telecom and China Netcom and is a member of the Board of Trustees of “la Caixa” Banking Foundation since February 2022. Among many honours and awards, in 2021 he was named “Honorary Ambassador of Spain Brand” by the Leading Brands of Spain Forum and Actualidad Económica has recognized him as "Best Businessman of the Year".
